About Florissant

Florissant has a long and rich history dating back centuries. Florissant is one of the oldest settlements in the state with its first local government formed in 1786 by French settlers. It grew over the course of the next 150 years, expanding into a large suburb after WWII when a huge influx of new subdivisions were built. Florissant continued to expand during the 20th century and well into the present. In 2012 CNN Money listed Florissant among the "Best 100 Places To Live" at 76th and in 2014, Florissant was voted the best city in America to retire and was also the second safest city in the state. Florissant is also home to 124 separate properties deemed historically significant and the Old Town District is on the National Registry of Historic Places.
